A handicap bet is a type of wager where a bookmaker adds a virtual handicap to the outcome of a sports event in order to level the playing field between the two teams or players.

This is often used when there is a significant difference in skill or ability between the two teams, making the outcome of the event more uncertain.

The handicap can be expressed in different ways, such as adding or subtracting a certain number of points or goals from one team's score, or requiring one team to win by a certain margin in order to cover the handicap.
